More Location-Based Cell Phone Services Coming
AP article on AT&T Bell Lab's latest location-based cellphone service. These offerings - metadata overlays for the real world - cause EFF-related conflict in my heart more than almost any other: an always-on surveillance society has a few drawbacks, but how great would it be to meander through a city with a device that beeps when you get close to a good deli? Or a wifi hotspot? Or the location of your next meeting? Pretty darn cool, that's how.
But alas, my kind of privacy-frittering consumers seem to be in the minority:
While many cell phone users might like to be notified of a nearby eatery or find it helpful to let others keep track of their movements, most would rather not expose themselves to round-the-clock, everywhere-they-go surveillance..:link:. | via Slashdot
